WElcome to the swedish language and
culture school of michigan!!
PURPOSE
The purpose of the Swedish Language and Culture School of Michigan is to provide education in the Swedish language, history and culture, and to promote mutual understanding and friendship among students. The school is a meeting place for those interested in Swedish culture and provides opportunities for students and parents to interact with others who speak Swedish.
MISSION
The mission of the Swedish Language and Culture School of Michigan is to provide supplemental Swedish language and culture education for students of Swedish heritage who are using Swedish as an active language in their home while encouraging the traditions of their Swedish values and beliefs
CURRICULUM
The curriculum focuses on teaching students to speak, listen and understand, read and write in Swedish. Alongside the language instruction, the school will introduce Swedish traditions, holidays, cultural events, history, and the Swedish way of life. Classes are held in Swedish. It is critical for the success of the students’ language skills that Swedish is spoken in the home on an ongoing basis. As a result, only students who have a Swedish-speaking family member should attend the school. The goal of the school is to further enrich the language skills from home, including grammar studies and pronunciation.
TUITION AND AGE REQUIREMENT
$50/term per student. If a student does not have a parent with Swedish citizenship, the cost is $250/term due to ineligibility for that student to receive support from the Swedish National Agency for Education. All students must actively engage in Swedish language training in their home.
Students must be 5 years old by September 1 to qualify for the school. Students can attend the school until they turn 19 years old.
The Swedish Language and Culture School of Michigan admits students of any race, color, and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, tuition assistance programs, or extracurricular and other school-administered programs
